So, it’s official – I’m delighted to announce that I have joined the Just a Card campaign team working alongside this lovely lot, as well as Sarah Hamilton of Sarah Hamilton Prints; Patricia Van den Akker, Director of The Design Trust; and Mollie Makes magazine.

If you haven’t already heard about Just a Card, allow me to enlighten you. The campaign was set up by Sarah Hamilton after she read about a gallery that had closed it’s doors for the final time. The owners commented that “If everyone who’d complimented our beautiful gallery had bought just a card we’d still be open.”

I have been selling my letterpress-printed cards for just over two years now, but I cannot imagine the heartache that must have resulted from the end of these shop owners’ dreams.

Handmade cards – and indeed any handcrafted items – are the result of years of education, experimentation, experience and expertise. With all that wrapped up in one small package, the difference between these lovingly-created items and their mass-produced alternatives could not be greater.

The message of the Just a Card campaign is that even small purchases add up. So even if you cannot afford to buy more than just a card you are still contributing greatly to a designer/maker’s ability to keep on creating, to an independent shop owner’s ability to stay open, and ultimately to the diversity of our high streets.

I’d say that was worth Just a Card.

You can find out more about the Just a Card campaign, and all my lovely fellow team members at www.justacard.org

If you would like to show your support for the campaign you can follow us on social media, display/distribute one of the flyers which you’ll find on the web site, or add the campaign badge to your web site or online shop.

But by far the best way you can help is to buy Just a Card!

You can find Just a Card on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram.
